Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge
Marsh, and 7.5 miles of trails — but a lot of the best of it is birded from the county roads crossing the marsh rather than from any trailhead.

Nesting birds
Piping plover and least tern nesting. The refuge closes Fowler Beach for it, and this page publishes the closure rather than anything that would help somebody get closer.
What can spoil the trip
- Fowler Beach is shut for nesting until 1 October 2026.
- Don't take a canoe east on the canoe trail — the refuge says it's silted in.
