The original du Pont black powder works on the Brandywine, plus the family's first house and gardens, spread over a couple of hundred acres. Most people spend two to three hours. It's outdoors as much as in, on gravel and uneven ground.

- The powder yard is closed 24 August to 4 September 2026. Everything else stays open and general admission is half price for those two weeks.
- Closed Wednesdays to general visitors.

- A wheelchair-accessible shuttle runs between the main areas. The grounds themselves are uneven with gravel paths, and Hagley says to wear proper shoes.
