Newlin Grist Mill
Working water-powered mill and 160-acre preserve · also called Newlin Grist Mill Park
A mill built in 1704 that still grinds with water, sitting in 160 acres of preserve with a stream, ponds and a mill race running through it. The grounds and the trails are free — the mill tour is the part you pay for, and the two are priced separately. Wooded creek walking rather than open park: shade, stone crossings and a lot of water.

The stream at the stone crossing. No mill in this frame — this is the preserve part, which is the free part.

Going
- Season
- Not confirmed
- Admission
- The grounds are free. The mill tour is $10 for adults and $6 for seniors and children 12 and under, with members and under-3s free. Both published by Newlin Grist Mill, read 8 August 2026.
- Grounds are free, the tour isn't
- Newlin says it makes "our 160-acre preserve free to those who come to enjoy it". The $10 buys the mill tour, not the gate. You can walk the trails all afternoon without paying anything.
- Dogs on leash
- Newlin publishes it directly: "Please pick up after your pets and make sure that all pets are on leashes." That's the operator's own wording, not a review site's.
- Welcome Center has moved
- The visitor center is shut for flood mitigation work. Information and admissions are running out of the Archive building instead, Tuesday to Sunday, 9am to 4pm. Read 8 August 2026 — this one is temporary by definition, so check before you rely on it.
- Trails
- Unpaved throughout. Newlin publishes a trail map but no mileage.

A toad on the bank, about as visible as it gets. I'm not naming the species off one photograph — American and Fowler's toads both live here and this frame doesn't settle it.
